Writing Productivity Secret

The secret is:

Turn the internet off.

I know it isn’t a secret, but the title sounded cool.

This morning I happened to do some writing outside of the range of my wireless.  I hadn’t realized how many times during my writing sessions I would interrupt myself to check email or look at something online.

There are times you have to do research online, but this was not what I was doing.  I had slipped into the habit of writing a little and then doing something online.  I wasn’t even aware of how much I did it.

My word count doubled.

Imagine that.  🙂

I’m moving out of range or unplugging it tomorrow as well.

The Space in Between

I’ve entered the strange period of time when one project is complete and the next one is just beginning.  I always feel adrift at this point, cut loose from the bonds of whatever it was I was working on.  Looking at a new project with all the work ahead, I wonder if I have the energy to do this again.

It seems to take a while for me to let go and refocus on the new.  It has always been this way for me, no matter what the project was.

I wonder if you feel this way too?
